I’ve been playing slap for about a year now. I’ve gotten better of course but I still have a long way to go. I can slap a decent swing 8th at about 170 BPM. I have Innovation Super Slappers on my Shen SB90, a beautiful blond with a nice round bottom that loves to be slapped.
I have a three piece jam with two guitarists. We jam a lot on R&R, Country and then we switch it up some and I grab the electric bass guitar and we dig into Hot Tuna, Dead and some other wonderful music.
Hello Lowdown76. Glad your here. There are a few guys on this board but not a lot of action. We can use a few active members to get this rolling some.
Hello from Staten Island NY. Nice video Spoonytunes. You’ll likely find it dead around here but I keep coming back hoping this can turn into a cool forum for us slappers.
Hopefully they, the strings, will stay in tune once they break in.
The first bass I had was rented from a teacher that I was taking lessons from. Right from the beginning, I wanted to learn how to slap and the bass I was using had Velvet Animas on it, a metal string. At first I was having a hard time slapping. It felt too hard and I was very fearful of hurting or breaking his bass. So I went and bought my own bass and had Innovation Super Silvers put on it. While I was deciding which bass to buy and then waiting to have it set up, I started to get a little brave with ‘his’ bass and I began slapping harder and snapping the strings more. I think I could have gotten better at slapping with the Velvets is all I”m saying.
The bass sounds like a nice looking bass. I’d like to see it. can we post pics here?
my next step is getting a pick up to install.
hI Paul. Welcome!!
It sure is like a desert here. A lot of good information but not much by the way of ‘participation’ from others. Maybe more of us will eventually show up and join in.
Have you got a Double Bass yet?
Welcome. We seem to be a few of only a few here on the boards. Maybe others will join in the discussion.
I ended up with a really nice SB90 from Shen. I bought it new at David Gage in Manhattan.
Hi Garrison. Looks like you posted about 7 Months ago. I’m a newbie too.
