Honestly, I would rather have guts, but after these things have been on long enough, the tone difference between guts and wackers is negligible. I love guts, but the maintenence problems plus the cost made me switch. I was playing in the desert one day, and by the beach (with all the fog) the next. It just was not working for me. The wackers are very stable, all the time. Same type of short decay, same overall feel, same width, and the tone is very similar. Nothing beats guts, really…but these are a close second.

Glad you came on here…lots and lots of great slappers here!
How did the San O’ show with Smokin’ Menehunes go? I was really bummed I couldn’t make it. Family likes to visit on the worst weekends sometimes…[/quote]
As it turns out, it was all work and none of us were allowed to surf! Heck, he (Pat) would not even allow us to wear shorts!
(There we were, in our dress shoes, white dress pants, aloha shirts and farmer hats…the only ones on the entire beach dressed for church!)
But, I guess I can’t complain. Got paid, and we really only played about an hour anyway.
The night before was way better. Private party, and I did the whole thing un-amplified on my jazz bass! I was amazed at how punchy and deep it was. It was a cement courtyard, with cement walls….I guess the sound was kind of focused?
Anyway, looks like we are back at Buster’s around the end of August!
I have seen him play with Big Sandy, Exotiki and Brian Jay.
Kevin Stewart is an amazing bassist!
I have a 3/4 Czech Strunal with spirocore weichs, and a 3/4 King Doublebass “slapking” with all wackers.
Thanks guys! Glad to be here!
I use all weedwackers for my rockabilly bass, same set for about 5 years actually! My jazz bass is strung with Spirocore weichs, but I am seriously considering putting them on my rockabilly bass as well. They actually have a good slap tone, not as metallic sounding as I thought they would be.
