i am new to the double bass and slap… i am wondering what CD/DVD/books i should get for instruction, what techniques should i be focusing on and how i should incorporate learning double and slap together so there is less confusion for me. i am a drummer by default so i am not musically inept. i am just wanting some sound advice from experienced slap bass players on how to learn both double bass and slap style together.
Dubouchet’s dvd is very good; as is the classic Kevin Smith/Mark Rubin dvd. I don’t know any good books out yet specifically for slap style. You say you know music…that’s a good start…keep learning theory. It will certainly help. What has helped me most is 1)listen, listen, listen, listen…then transcribe and 2)get a teacher. I might be able to learn on your own, but expect it to take significantly longer.
well, I really enjoyed the video (oh my God, video, long time ago, i´m getting old) of Lee Rocker.
I guess as you come from the percussion world is going to be easy and fun to be breaking the rhythm and all….
…don’t forget to play all the music you can …from country, walkin’ bass from blues, even Surf and soul… (whatever you want)
PLAY, PRACTIC AND… ENJOY!!!!
