Hi,
My name is Rob Oxoby, currently living in Calgary AB Canada but originally from San Francisco where I used to play with the Hellbillys and Mutilators. I currently play with a couple of rockabilly/jump blues bands in Calgary. Also started playing with the Calgary Civic Symphony for a challenge. I have some transcriptions of some slap bass pieces I’ll post once I figure out how.
I used to play a 1920’s King laminate bass. Sold it recently (someone made my a crazy offer for it) and bought a carved Italian bass and a newer Czech bass (which works fine and is durable for rockabilly gigs).
Congrats to Djordje for putting this site together.
Cheers,
Rob

welcome aboard!
Howdy Rob!
How long after Rockin’ Rick did you play in the Hellbillys?
I think there might be an old 7″ of theirs floating around my house…
Good luck on the Symphony challenge!
Welcome aboard
Hola Rob! I’ve been trying to see your old band (mutilators)play for a while ,now, but always miss them! Glad to have you aboard. How you liking the land of maple and hockey?
Nice to meet you! I had a crazy offer for my 51 Kay at VLV. He was ready to get me $3,000 cash. No deal! I was too drunk. I would have went home with no bass and money.
I know what you mean. I had to think long and hard before selling my old King. In the end, the guy offered me more than it was worth to me. I used the money and bought a great Czech beater bass and an Italian carved bass from the 50’s that I use for less tempestuous shows.
