My name is Mattias and I’m a 28 years old from Sweden. Been playing guitar on and off for ~15 years and upright bass for about a year. I play psychobilly and rockabilly. I recently started my string journey and have so far tried steels, weedwackers and most recently silverslaps.

Besides playing and listening to music I ride an old kicker 1972 Harley and a 1970 Cadillac. I try to airbrush and pinstripe a little now and again and plan on striping my bass.

The bass is the cheapest one from thomann.de that my girlfriend bought me for my birthday after six months of talking about getting a bass.

Welcome to the board. Sounds like your a bit ahead of me on the string journey. Got some of the superior wackers on the way but from what I have been hearing I think silver slaps will be the next set I try.

    Well thank you.

I don’t really like the silverslaps for me anyways. They are kinda stiff so I have to lower the strings to the point where I smack the fingers into the fingerboard to get a decent slapsound. Everyone say they are really low tension but I liked the wackers more for playability but the silverslaps kicks their ass tonewise. I’m gonna play them for a while and see if I can get used to them as the E and A wackers are pretty useless. No point in having a 4 string bass where you only use 2 strings.

    Sorry for the rant πŸ™‚

I found that the Silver Slaps needed to be played in for a while. Tension loosened up quite a bit after playing them for a couple of weeks. Just my 2 cents!

Yeah I hear silverslaps are great once worked in, you may want to give them some time if you havent already.

Apparently the E wacker on the set of superior wackers is a lot better than most. Not sure what type of wackers you tried or if they were self made but you may want to check into them, they are cheap and everyone seems to be saying really good things about them.

If your not on rockabillybass.com you can check the string forum there and there is a big thread about them and what people think about them and compare them to. I believe they come as a 5 string set as well so you can bump them even if you wanted to.

Yeah as I said I’ll give them another go. Haven’t played them more than a couple of hours since my fingers get sore from banging into the fingerboard. I raised the action a bit so it’s comfortable to play but then I can’t get a good slap going. It will be fun to see how much they will loosen up in a couple of weeks. I heard Ville from Mad Sin used them and he slaps like they are made of rubber πŸ™‚

I had FMI Pro weedwackers and the E is supposedly alot better than normal weedwackers but I still think it sucks. Let me know when you get your superiors as I’d like to hear a review from another newbie.

Thanks Memphisevil. I’ve been watching your videos on youtube and am currently trying to learn the dragtriplet from you. Hope to see more of you on youtube in the future.

No not really. I live about 620 miles north of Stockholm. In a small town outside of LuleΓ₯. It’s cold and dark here so theres nothing to do except stay inside and slap the bass πŸ™‚
