Bonjour Monsieur Dubouchet!
Elle est une Kay pour vous a Fretwell.com
1954 Kay M-1 B Left-Handed – Newly Listed! US$3,900
s/n 34254 On consignment. Comes with Ingels stand, eNote tuner, bag and mute!! Here is a detailed description in the owners words: “She has, imho, an interesting history . . . discovered several years ago in an old barn covered in dirt with a broken neck & top caved in, she was quite literally a total “basket case”.
Luckily, she somehow fell into the highly skilled hands of a true craftsman/artist who took her on as a project in an attempt to resurrect a livin` breathin` bass from little more than a pile of kindlin` wood. You`d have to see the before & after photos to fully appreciate the end result. He hand-carved both a new top from spruce & a new neck from hard maple to the exact original Kay specifications along with a new ebony fingerboard with mother-of-pearl inlays, adjustable bridge, new german rubner engraved tuners and a new custom Honey color job..
While he was at it, he put her back together as a true “lefty” by moving the the bassbar & soundpost over to the “other” side. Only the original back, sides/ribs, tail piece & label survived the restoration as the foundation to become a unique hybrid-lefty Kay.
The previous owner “gigged” her professionally for six years (bluegrass, western swing, & jazz) with absolutely none of the typical problems that one might expect to be associated with a carved top in that harsh “Yankee” weather of northern Vt.
Oh, yeah . . . she came with a Rev Solo II p/u & a mooradian bag. The original owner, Kirk Lord, told me that several folks were involved in the restoration: Pete Langdell, a local (Vt) luthier who founded Rigel Mandolins & has for many years done work for the pros. Robbie McIntosh, luthier, did the set-up: bridge, fingerboard dressing and fit a new soundpost. Barrie Kolstein also worked on it some & said Pete did an exceptional job carving the top. A truly collaborative effort”
Bon Chance!
SVP, visiter Hong Kong!

Merci Monsieur Fretwell !
I have seen this left-handed Kay on your w-site.It’s nice even I prefer sunburnst color.I’m happy to know that people saved this bass and that a vintage lefty Kay is available. If I get a chance to go to Staunton I will sure visit your store and try this “grand-mère”(It means “granny” that’s how we name old bass in France).
Thank you very much.I’m always interested in an old lefty Kay.
